The Boldtura atelier

Nine makers, one workshop floor, sixteen years of furniture.

Boldtura grew out of a single bench in 2009, in a borrowed unit at the back of Sungai Buloh’s Kampung Baru industrial estate. We still cut every frame on that same site — two doors down, with a bigger sander.

A small business by choice

We stayed under ten people on purpose — it is how the work stays accountable.

Founder Aliah Roszali apprenticed in Kuala Selangor as a teenager, then spent four years with a yacht-fitting outfit before opening Boldtura. The workshop runs on the same principle she learned at the harbour: every piece has one maker’s name pencilled on the underside, and they answer for it.

That is why we cap workshop capacity at roughly eight residential commissions in build at any one time. We could take more — we choose not to, because we like to keep one eye on everything in progress.

What you are paying for

Boldtura is not the cheapest workshop in Selangor. We are honest about why.

I

Solid timber, not veneer-on-MDF

Frames are kembang, nyatoh or solid oak — kiln-dried locally and quarter-sawn. MDF only appears in concealed structural webs.

II

Eight-way hand-tied springs

On any sofa marked “coil” in the spec sheet, the springs are tied across eight directions by hand. It takes an extra day per seat — and lasts twice as long.

III

Replaceable, not recyclable

Every cushion is built so the cover unzips and the fill is replaceable. We send fresh foam back to clients ten years on.

IV

One quote, no surprise add-ons

Sample boxes, delivery and white-glove install are quoted upfront. We hold the price for sixty days after sign-off.

V

Five-year frame warranty

Joinery and frames are warranted for five years. Springs and foam carry three-year cover, fabric carries one — all stated in writing.

VI

Workshop, not showroom mark-ups

There is no retail floor in KLCC. Every ringgit you spend pays a maker, a supplier or a delivery driver — not commission.

Materials

The timber, foam and fabric we stand by — and the ones we won’t touch.

We buy our hardwood from two Selangor mills — Kuala Selangor and Kapar — and a third in Pahang for figured pieces. Foam is supplied by a Senawang factory that publishes its formaldehyde-emission certificates twice a year. Upholstery fabric is sourced through three agents covering Linwood, Designers Guild, Romo and a handful of Malaysian weavers.

What we don’t use: rubberwood frames (too soft for long-stay seating), staple-only joinery, polyurethane stretch fabrics on living-room sofas, and any veneer thinner than 0.9mm.
